What sets us apart:
- As a consultant for the NCAA since 2007 in reviewing applicants to Division II, Double L is fully aware of the most current regulations and best practices. The knowledge gained regarding the intricacies of the membership process seamlessly aids the compliance review for active members in Division II.
- Double L uses established working relationships with NCAA staff and the NCAA Division II Membership Committee as well as other Division II professionals.
- As former campus administrators, we have firsthand experience.
Our approach:
- We help the campus community understand the importance of separation of duties and strong institutional control.
- Documentation provided by the institution will be reviewed to understand the current state of institutional control and serve as the starting point for the blueprint review on campus.
- During campus visits, meetings will be set with the CEO, CFO, Athletics Director, Compliance staff, Coaches, Student-Athletes, the Compliance Committee, and the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee. Based on the evaluation of collected documentation, meetings will focus on the understanding from each individual pertaining to NCAA policies and procedures to determine if there is a need to bridge the gap between NCAA policies and existing institutional policies.
- A thorough review of current policies will be completed to ensure compatibility with NCAA regulations at all levels and suggestions for improvement and changes will be provided.
- Additional time will be spent with the Athletics Director and Compliance Coordinator to ensure a basic understanding of the following areas: institutional control, separation of duties, the importance of a compliance committee, working knowledge of NCAA eligibility, financial aid, and recruiting.
- Double L will emphasize NCAA resources currently available to the institution including Institutional Performance Program (IPP) LSDBi, RSRO, the NCAA website, educational videos, compliance seminars, and Compliance Assistant.
- Existing documents will be reviewed with a focus on financial aid lists, eligibility forms, playing and practice season logs as well as recruiting documentation.
The initial review will end with the President/Chancellor who will be apprised of the initial assessment and given a timeline for written feedback on the institution’s current performance. Using this approach will allow the consultant to make assessments to the extent to which the institution has developed and implemented compliance systems and procedures as well as evaluate the completeness of the documentation presently being used. Final review of all documents and manuals will ensure the institution’s commitment to institutional control.
